Backup & Restore Policy

DulyNote is a product operated by Anyfyn Inc., a New York corporation.

Effective Date: February 2026

Governing Law: New York, USA

This Backup & Restore Policy explains how export, backup, import, and restore work in DulyNote and outlines important limitations. This page is provided for informational purposes and is not a guarantee of recoverability or successful restore in any situation.

1. Local-First and No Custody

DulyNote is a local-first application. Anyfyn Inc. does not host or store your notes, files, bookmarks, collections, exports, or recordings on Anyfyn Inc. servers.

Backups occur only when you initiate an export. You are solely responsible for managing, storing, securing, and testing your backups.

2. Definitions

  • "Export" means any backup or data package you generate from DulyNote, including .dnote, PDF, or JSON.
  • ".dnote" means a DulyNote export package intended for full-fidelity backup and restore.
  • "Recovery Key" means a user-held secret used to encrypt and decrypt encrypted exports (if enabled).
  • "Third-Party Services" means any external storage provider or service you use (e.g., cloud drives, network storage, file-sharing tools).

3. What Can Be Backed Up

Depending on your selection, device state, permissions, storage availability, and App version, exports may include:

  • notes and metadata
  • links
  • media files
  • imported bookmarks (including locally extracted icons where applicable)
  • audio notes (for example, Type 6 recordings stored as M4A/AAC, where supported)

No completeness guarantee:

Exports may not include every item in every circumstance (for example due to unsupported formats, interrupted export operations, insufficient storage, device restrictions, OS limitations, permission revocations, corruption, or other failure conditions).

4. Export Formats

DulyNote may support multiple export formats. Availability and fidelity vary by format:

  • .dnote bundles (recommended for highest restore fidelity)
  • JSON (interoperability; may not preserve all media fidelity/structures)
  • PDF (human-readable; not intended for full restore fidelity)

5. Import and Verification

When importing a .dnote package, DulyNote is designed to perform integrity and authenticity checks before writing imported data into the local database. These checks may include:

  • signature verification
  • checksum validation (including for media and audio files where applicable)

Best-efforts notice:

Verification processes are provided on an "as implemented" basis and may fail, be incomplete, or be unavailable in some cases due to corruption, incompatibility, device constraints, or other conditions. Verification does not guarantee security, prevent all tampering, or ensure successful restore.

6. Optional Encryption

If you enable encryption for an export:

  • encryption is performed on-device, prior to upload or storage, and
  • encryption keys are derived from your Recovery Key.

Recovery Key warning (critical):

If you lose your Recovery Key, encrypted backups cannot be recovered by Anyfyn Inc., and the encrypted export may be permanently inaccessible. Anyfyn Inc. does not escrow, store, or recover Recovery Keys.

No encryption guarantee:

While DulyNote is designed to apply encryption when enabled, Anyfyn Inc. does not warrant or guarantee that encryption will be error-free, uninterrupted, or effective against all threats.

7. Where Backups Go

You choose where to store exported files, such as:

  • local device storage
  • external storage
  • third-party cloud drives
  • network storage or file-sharing tools

Third-Party Services are outside Anyfyn Inc.'s control. Anyfyn Inc. is not responsible for outages, breaches, policy changes, account restrictions, file scanning, file modification, file corruption, partial uploads, sync conflicts, data retention, or data loss caused by Third-Party Services.

8. Bookmark Import Note

During initial bookmark import, DulyNote is designed not to fetch favicons or automatically contact bookmarked sites in order to reduce unintended tracking.

If you later open a link or enable link previews/metadata fetching, your device may make network requests to third-party websites as part of those features or normal browsing behavior. Anyfyn Inc. does not control those third-party endpoints.

9. Restore Routing, Zones, and Replication

DulyNote may route imported content based on signer identity, provenance, or conflict detection to preserve separation between local content you own and content received from external sources (for example, routing to an Inbox zone).

DulyNote may provide a Replication feature to create an independent copy of imported content under your control.

You are responsible for ensuring you have the rights to import, store, replicate, and retain any content, including content received from others.

10. Deletion and Backups

Deleting content in the App does not delete prior exported copies stored elsewhere.

  • Soft deletion may move items into a deleted state/zone.
  • Permanent deletion is irreversible once confirmed.

Exports created prior to deletion may still contain deleted items and remain outside the App's control.

11. Compatibility, Versioning, and Operational Limits

Backup and restore behavior may change across App versions. Older exports may not be compatible with future versions (or may require conversion). Restores may be affected by:

  • App version differences
  • OS updates or device restrictions
  • unavailable permissions
  • insufficient storage
  • interrupted imports/exports
  • corrupted archives or partial uploads
  • third-party storage behavior (sync conflicts, compression, antivirus scanning, file rewriting)

Anyfyn Inc. does not guarantee that any specific export will remain compatible indefinitely.

12. Your Responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • maintaining backups in more than one secure location (if desired)
  • safeguarding Recovery Keys
  • verifying that exports are created successfully
  • periodically testing restore/import on a secondary device (or controlled environment)
  • ensuring storage providers preserve files without modification

13. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, backup and restore features are provided on an "as is," "as available," and "as implemented" basis. Anyfyn Inc. makes best efforts but does not warrant that backup, export, encryption, import, verification, or restore will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, complete, error-free, or successful.

Anyfyn Inc. is not responsible for, and disclaims liability arising from:

  • user error or misuse
  • device loss, theft, damage, or failure
  • OS changes, platform restrictions, or permission revocations
  • corrupted storage media or file system errors
  • partial exports/imports or interrupted operations
  • third-party storage outages, breaches, or file modification
  • encryption failures, vulnerabilities, or implementation defects
  • Recovery Key loss or compromise
  • incompatibility between versions or devices
  • any inability to restore data for any reason

This Backup & Restore Policy does not expand or modify any limitations of liability in DulyNote's Terms of Use.
