How DulyNote Works

Everything lives on your device. Nothing leaves unless you choose. Here's how it all fits together.

Your data lives on your device

DulyNote is local-first. When you save a link, write a note, or add a photo, it goes straight to your device — not a server, not a cloud, not anywhere else. There is no account to create. No email to verify. Nothing tied to your identity.

My Collection vs. Inbox

DulyNote separates what you own from what you've received. This keeps your personal saves clean and distinct from shared content.

My Collection

Everything you save yourself. Links you bookmarked, notes you wrote, photos you added, files you imported. This is your personal space — organized by tags, searchable, and entirely yours.

  • Links & bookmarks
  • Notes & text
  • Photos & videos
  • Files & documents
  • Audio recordings

Inbox

Content that arrives from outside — items shared to you via a .dnote package, or content imported from another profile. Your Inbox is a staging area: review it, then move what you want into your Collection.

  • Received .dnote packages
  • Imported profile content
  • Merged collections
  • Staging before organizing

The separation keeps your personal saves clean — what you own vs. what you've received never gets mixed up.

The .dnote file

The .dnote file is DulyNote's portable package format. It bundles your saves — notes, links, media, files — into a single transferable file that you control completely.

What a .dnote file can do

Back up your data

Export your entire profile or the whole app as a .dnote file. Store it anywhere — your phone, a USB drive, your laptop.

Restore on any device

Move from iPhone to Android? No problem. Import your .dnote file and everything comes back exactly as it was.

Share a collection

Export a specific profile or collection as a .dnote package and share it with someone. They import it into their Inbox.

Two export types

Export Current Profile → .dnote

Packages everything in your active profile — My Collection, Inbox, and Tags — into a single .dnote file.

Export Entire App → .dnoteapp

Packages all profiles across the entire app into one .dnoteapp file. The ultimate full backup.

Optional encryption

Before exporting, you can choose to encrypt the package with a unique key. Only someone with that key can open it. DulyNote never stores or sees your key — it's yours alone.

Profile Vault

Keep different parts of your life completely separate. Work, personal, research, family — each profile is its own isolated space with its own collection, inbox, and tags.

Why use multiple profiles?

  • Keep work and personal saves separate on a shared device
  • Maintain research collections without mixing with daily saves
  • Share a collection with someone without exposing your other profiles
  • Switch between contexts instantly without confusion

Merging profiles

Want to combine two profiles? Export one as a .dnote package, switch to your main profile, and import it. The content lands in your Inbox, ready to review and organize.

App Lock & Security

For an extra layer of protection on shared devices, DulyNote supports PIN-based app lock with optional biometrics.

6-digit PIN

Set a PIN in Settings > App Security. The app requires it on every open.

Face ID / Touch ID

Enable biometrics for quick, secure access without typing your PIN every time.

Lock Delay

Choose how quickly the app locks when you switch away — immediately, or after a short grace period.

Important: Because DulyNote is local-first, we cannot recover or reset your PIN. If you forget it and don't have a backup, you may lose access to your data. Keep a .dnote backup somewhere safe.
