As a local-first application, DulyNote ensures you retain full ownership and control of your data. Regular backups are essential to maintaining data integrity and long-term accessibility.
Creating a Full Backup
You can export your entire DulyNote library as a single, portable archive:
- Open DulyNote and navigate to Settings.
- Scroll to OFFLINE BACKUP & SHARING.
- Choose Full Backup.
- Encryption (recommended): Enable encryption to secure your backup using AES-256-GCM with your personal Recovery Key.
- Save the resulting .dnote file to an external drive, private cloud storage, or another trusted device.
Restoring Your Data
To restore data from a backup:
- Go to Settings and select Restore from Package.
- Locate and open your .dnote backup file.
- Enter your Recovery Key, if required.
- DulyNote will restore your notes, tags, images, and attachments in full.
About the .dnote Format
The .dnote format is designed for durability and transparency. It is a standard ZIP archive containing a structured JSON manifest and your original files, ensuring your data remains accessible even without the DulyNote application.
⚠️ Caution
Encrypted backups depend entirely on your Recovery Key. If the key is lost, the backup cannot be restored. Store
your Recovery Key securely in a separate location.
