Losing a phone can be disruptive, especially when important data is involved. DulyNote is designed to ensure your data remains recoverable in the event of device loss — provided you have your Recovery Key and a recent backup.
Recovery Requirements
To restore your data, you will need:
- Your most recent .dnote backup file
- Your 32-character Recovery Key (required if the backup is encrypted)
Recovery Process
- Install DulyNote on your new device.
- During setup, select Restore from Package.
- Open your .dnote backup file.
- Enter your Recovery Key.
- DulyNote will decrypt and restore your full data set.
If No Backup Is Available
DulyNote operates on a local-first model and does not store user data on its servers. If no backup exists at the time of device loss, the data cannot be recovered. This is a deliberate design choice to protect your privacy — no server means no breach.
Preventing Future Data Loss
- Off-device storage: Share backups to a secure service such as iCloud, Google Drive, or Dropbox after each major update to your library.
- 3-2-1 backup strategy: Maintain three copies of your data, on two different media types, with one copy stored offsite.
- Scheduled reminders: Set a recurring reminder to back up DulyNote weekly or monthly.
⚠️ Important
Your Recovery Key is essential for accessing your DulyNote data. Store it securely — such as in a password manager, printed copy, or safe location.
